IBUKU is an international studio based in Bali that designs homes, campuses and destinations that reconnect us with nature, ourselves and each other in new ways. Rooted in bamboo design innovation and excellence culminating in the bamboo engineering wonder The Arc at Green School Bali, to the classic entirely-bamboo masterpiece home Sharma Springs, IBUKU has grown to design master plans and architectural mixed-media projects for homes and hospitality. Our approach is collaborative, we design the best, most magical, and most realistic project for each context. At IBUKU, we merge the artisanal and technological, natural, and modern towards a beautiful future.
During our design process, we research and propose the ideal material palette, and strive to find the ideal way forward for your context working alongside local expert collaborators. For overseas projects we coordinating with the chosen Local Architect and local bamboo teams to deliver the detailed design phases. On Bali and in select overseas locations where they are able to travel, we recommend our long-time collaborator, Bamboo Pure, builder of the most iconic IBUKU structures and furniture. Our team of experts, led by Creative Director, Elora Hardy, has designed over 100 structures on Bali and around the world.
Originally part of the design-build team, IBUKU is now a stand-alone design studio. Our story began in a community of design innovators in Bali. In 2006, renowned jewelry designer John Hardy gathered a dynamic team to build the Green School from bamboo, inspiring future green leaders worldwide. In 2010, John’s daughter Elora returned to Bali to continue the design revolution under the IBUKU brand.
