Berawal dari undangan IATMI Komisariat sumbagsel untuk menghadiri sosialisasi visi dan misi IATMI Komisariat Pusat di Hotel Horison 12 maret 2011 membuka peluang bagi PERMATA FT Unsri untuk membentuk IATMI SM di kampus Unsri, hal ini didasarkan kebutuhan akan ilmu perminyakan yang tinggi dari mahasiswa Unsri serta di jurusan teknik pertambangan terdapat Opsi Migas (Kosentrasi Studi).

Sehingga dengan niat pendidikan dan memfasilitasi insan perminyakan di Unsri serta berkontribusi untuk IATMI di dunia perminyakan, akhirnya berdirilah IATMI SM Unsri pada tanggal 12 Mei 2011 yang berada di bawah naungan PERMATA FT Unsri.

Adapun Visi dan Misi IATMI SM UNSRI ,yakni:

  • Visi:

Menjadikan IATMI SM UNSRI sebagai wadah yang berkontribusi dalam meningkatkan potensi mahasiswa Pertambangan (Opsi MIGAS) dalam industri perminyakan.

  • Misi:

1. Mengundang atau mendatangkan ahli perminyakan untuk memberikan informasi dan wawasan dunia minyak dan gas di Universitas Sriwijaya 2. Memfasilitasi pelatihan atau seminar untuk menambah softskill dan hardskill IATMI SM UNSRI 3. Memberikan kontribusi pemikiran terhadap perkembangan dalam industri perminyakan
