Description
Hands of Hope Foundation is a not for profit organisation that was established by a group of people who have a passion for helping the most vulnerable and marginalised people in our community. The Foundation provides crisis support and emergency relief for vulnerable people in need, and people in distress. The key focus of the Foundation is in assisting people who are at risk of homelessness, or who are experiencing homelessness. We also seek to assist those people in our community who are financially disadvantaged, who are experiencing serious mental health issues, or domestic violence.
EVERY MOMENT COUNTS Homelessness is a substantial social issue in Australia. Recent statistics show that more than 116,000 people were estimated to be homeless in Australia, 58% being male and 42% being female. Of the 116,000 people who were estimated to be homeless, 21% were aged 25–34 years and 20% identified as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians (ABS 2018). The number of homeless people in Australia jumped by more 14 per cent in the five years to 2016, according to census data.
A person is considered to be homeless in Australia if they:
- do not have access to safe, secure adequate housing, or if the only housing they have access to is likely to damage their health;
- are in circumstances which threaten or adversely affect the adequacy, safety, security, or affordability of their home;
- have no security of tenure. That is, they have no legal right to continued occupation of their living area.
Hands of Hope Foundation Incorporation is a a registered charity, public benevolent institution, and tax deductible gift recipient organisation that seeks to provide pathways to hope for people who are experiencing homelessness or other life challenging events.
