Gas Infrastructure Research Australia (GIRA) is a for-purpose scientific institution which has been established to conduct collaborative research to understand and adapt the role of gas infrastructure in Australia’s transition to a clean energy future. Its work aims to enable safe and efficient delivery of fuels and other gases and liquids in a net-zero emissions future, such as hydrogen, biomethane, natural gas and carbon dioxide.

GIRA will:

  • establish a collaborative research centre for world-class research and training,
  • promote coordinated research and education for the benefit of its members,
  • inform guidelines and standards through scientific research,
  • offer education for students and professionals working in related industries, and
  • ensure research outcomes benefit Australian industry, environment and economy.
