Gunnersen Allen Metals, or GAM Steel as we are better known, is a recognised leader in steel distribution and processing services. Our site is located in Altona North, sits on a 139,000m2 site, and incorporates 60,000m2 of facility space.
In 1932 Gunnersen Allen Metals began trading steel. Originally established in Port Melbourne the facility has moved westward twice as its growth made it necessary to seek larger premises. The facility relocated to Brooklyn in 1970 and later moved to its current purpose-built site in Altona North in 2021. Throughout its history, the business has developed into one of the country’s leading long products processing and distribution businesses.

GAM Steel has the capacity, local and global reach to give you all this and more. Because we have been trading for decades, we are able to access greater resources that will add value to our customers.
Part of the United Steel Group, we work closely with the group’s other businesses including Calibre Steel, Coil Steels, and United Steel. We have distributor agreements with Australian mills including BlueScope, Infrabuild, Bisalloy Steels, and AusTube Mills, complemented by excellent international supply.
