Description
Our organisation is passionate about promoting German culture, traditions and language in Queensland, as well as actively supporting initiatives and projects of the German Consulate in Brisbane. Furthermore, we are dedicated to fostering cross-cultural and multicultural cooperation and relationships for the betterment of Queensland and its people. We are proudly part of the Multicultural Queensland Ambassador program.
Founded in 2005, GACCQ is strongly involved in many projects and initiatives including:
» “Queensland’s German Connections” book. Published by GACCQ, Queensland’s German Connections: Past, Present and Future – 170 Years Strong (1842-2012) is a magnificent, full-colour work with almost 600 illustrations in its 376 pages.
» “SAGSE: 50 years of Australian German Student Exchange” booklet. Published by GACCQ, it celebrates this milestone with stories, anecdotes, students and supportersroud work.
» German Language Initiative. GACCQ actively supports the work of the German Language Roundtable in promoting the learning and interest in German. Visit www.GermaninBrisbane.com.au.
» Ludwig Leichhardt Commemoration. GACCQ was key supporter for the celebrations & projects for the 200th anniversary of the explorer’s birth included: LeichhardtLand.net.au, a definitive website on all aspects of Leichhardt; an official visit of Ludwig Leichhardt’s descendant to Australia; and the launch of QANTAS’ newest plane, named ‘Leichhardt’.
» Karneval. GACCQ is a major supporter of Brisbane German Club’s annual Karneval event, a festival celebrating century-old German Karneval traditions.
» Oktoberfest Brisbane. GACCQ has strongly supported Oktoberfest Brisbane and Oktoberfest for Teens since their inception. Oktoberfest Brisbane is Australia’s largest German Festival, and a Top 10 Oktoberfest outside Germany (National Geographic). At Oktoberfest for Teens, Queensland’s largest schools’ language event, students experience first-hand an authentic German cultural festival.
