The “Fueling the Engine of Innovation in the Indo-Pacific region” initiative, spearheaded by the U.S Department of State and executed by Fulbright University Vietnam, is designed to bolster innovation and intellectual property (IP) rights awareness in the Indo-Pacific region. Despite the region’s vast population and numerous research institutions, patent filings are low, primarily from foreign entities. The initiative is set to alter this by cultivating an environment of innovation and IP rights.
A crucial component of this initiative is the Fulbright IP and Technology Transfer Program (Fulbright IP & Tech Transfer), aiming to transform the perspective towards innovation, research, and development in the region. It empowers researchers and innovators from Indo-Pacific countries with the necessary knowledge and skills for IP commercialization and technology transfer, following the U.S best practices.
The program prepares researchers, innovators, and technology managers to effectively utilize various mechanisms, tools, and negotiation skills.
Additionally, it promotes the development and optimization of Technology and Innovation Support Centers in the Indo-Pacific, facilitating the conversion of research into market-ready products.
In the long run, the program is set to substantially increase IP filings and enhance technology commercialization within and beyond the region, contributing to a sustainable and innovative future. Participation can help bridge the knowledge gap and unlock immense potential to respond to pressing challenges with confidence.
