Description

In 2016 an old fish processing factory was for sale in Goulds Country on the north-east coast of Tasmania. The infrastructure was sound and in need of a refocus. Over the next four years Jennifer and Walter slowly breathed new life into the old factory that is now home for their company Forest & Fish.

With the knowledge that the bee population around the world was rapidly declining they felt that it was important to create a haven for the world’s most productive insect. They realised they were surrounded by rich natural honey-producing flora and plants that would provide pollen and nectar. With a natural curiosity and affection for the honeybee, their neighbours were more than happy to host their hives. The beehive network has connected their little community, and the spirit of generosity increases with the sharing of cuttings for bee forage, planning gardens for year-long flowering and regular honey tasting sessions. They're proud of the healthy coexisting population of managed and native bees across the Blue Tier and have appropriately labelled their honey ‘Thankyou Bees’. The honey is harvested in the most sustainable and ethical way, is coarsely filtered and unheated with natural occurring pollen.

Year round they offer hive hosting and through the summer months, camping is available by the spring-fed pond with hive tours and honey tastings.
