A candidate is a name match on the registry, not a confirmed identity, and two candidates are ambiguity rather than a corporate structure.
Eighteen Fifty & Co. is a family-owned group that restores, revitalises, and operates independent hospitality businesses across regional Australia.
We’re not building a chain. Each of our properties is distinct, with its own history, setting, and story. Our role is to invest in what matters: heritage, people, and purpose. And to leave behind what doesn’t.
What connects our businesses is a shared belief in long-term thinking, quality without pretence, and a deep respect for place. Whether it’s a vineyard in the hills or a pub at the heart of a small town, we look for opportunities where history, hospitality, and character meet. Then we work hard to bring them to life.
Right now, we’re the custodians of two South Australian properties:
Skillogalee Estate A boutique winery and premium wine estate offering dining and accommodation in the Clare Valley. First planted in the early 1970s and centred around a stone settler’s cottage built in 1851, Skillogalee is known for its premium wines, its restaurant overlooking the vines, and its understated approach to regional hospitality. We’re building on that legacy with a focus on thoughtful food, sustainable viticulture, the careful regeneration of the land, and a guest experience shaped by the landscape and season.
The Rising Sun A landmark 1850s pub in Auburn, brought back to life with classic dining, local wines, and boutique rooms. It has long served as a community gathering point, and we’re returning it to that role — with a public bar that feels right for a casual lunch, a dining room serving seasonal pub fare, and a considered, extensive wine list that highlights the Clare Valley and beyond. Accommodation is classic heritage style, in keeping with the building’s original character.
We’re hands-on, values-led, and growing carefully. Always in service of the places and people that make these businesses possible.
