With over 30 years of computerisation and e-Government experience, Singapore is recognised as one of the leading e-Governments in the world. Singapore continues to be ranked top amongst the world e-Government rankings conducted by various prestigious organisations such as Waseda University of Japan, Accenture, and United Nations.
Poised to further strengthen its position at the forefront of e-Government education, it has cemented another milestone by setting up the Singapore e-Government Leadership Centre (eGL). eGL was officially established on 1 August 2006 as a partnership between the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and the National University of Singapore (NUS). The key objective was to contribute to e-Government developments in other countries by providing leadership education programmes founded on Singapore's practical implementation experience.
Real scenarios, real practitioners and real experiences – these are what make the Singapore e-Government Leadership Centre unique and attract public sector leaders from across the world to its programmes.
We believe in helping our partner countries develop their own citizens' capability in a systematic way that will be directly and immediately useful in their countries. We also believe that by doing so, these countries can become self-sufficient in implementing electronic services. This will create the sustainability necessary for them to deploy e-government successfully.
eGL aims to leverage on Singapore’s rich experience and accomplishments to share and build capabilities in the Governments desirous of enhancing their governance and services to their citizens and enterprises though the use of Info Comm Technologies (ICT). We conduct workshops to help leaders achieve a shared e-Government Vision for their department/ministry/ country and align their e-Government programmes that lead to fulfilment of the economic or societal drivers.
