Description
The Earth Gardens Charitable Trust helps people living with disabilities, mental illness, addictions or life challenges (tangata whaikaha) build skills, confidence and connection through hands-on, garden-to-plate learning and purposeful mahi.
We do this by working alongside tangata whaikaha:
- Teaching practical garden-to-plate life skills - from growing and harvesting to cooking and nutrition.
- Creating welcoming spaces where people connect, grow socially, and build confidence.
- Supporting purposeful mahi that contributes to personal wellbeing and the wider community.
Our Values:
1. Belonging and Manaakitanga. Everyone deserves to feel welcome, respected, and supported to flourish.
2. Growing Together. We build strong relationships, learn alongside each other, and support each other with a can-do attitude.
3. Kaitiakitanga and Sustenance. We care for our whenua and people through shared kai, sustainable practice, and connection to nature.
We follow the principles of Enabling Good Lives - putting people at the centre, supporting choice, and strengthening whanau and community connection. Our mahi is guided by e Whare Tapa Wha, which reminds us to care for the whole person - taha tinana (body), taha wairua (spirit), taha hinengaro (mind), and taha whanau (family and connection). We also honour kaitiakitanga - our shared role as guardians of the whenua and each other. Through growing kai, caring for the land, and working together, we help people and Papatuanuku to thrive.
