Description
Mathematics Olympiad originated from a Mathematics competition organized by USSR Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (nowadays known as Russia) in the 1930’s. In 1959, the first Mathematics Olympiad international competition was held in Bucharest, Hungary and has been held annually ever since.
Mathematics Olympiad questions are usually regarded as higher order thinking-based problems which have a different level of difficulty compared to the education syllables of various countries. It is said to be even more difficult than university entrance examinations. Through various Mathematics Olympiad competitions and contests, outstanding students are usually shortlisted to undergo intensive training courses provided by national education association.
In recent years, some prestigious universities and schools have resorted to recruit talented students from different International Mathematics Olympiad competitions. Most universities will acknowledge one’s participation in the Mathematics Olympiad given the fact that students who had participated in the International Maths Olympiads are already intellectually capable enough to represent their respective countries to compete with other geniuses as well.

Mathematics Olympiad triggers and helps to expand children's thinking in dealing with mathematical problems.
