Description
The German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation (DSIK) is the development policy arm of the German Sparkassen Finance Group. Its task is to disseminate the successful Sparkassen model across regional borders and around the globe. By enabling people in developing countries and emerging economies to access financial services, it aims to create opportunities that will allow them to leave poverty behind.
For more than 200 years, the German Sparkassen has demonstrated that financial inclusion can be successfully and sustainably achieved if it is organized efficiently and implemented professionally. German Sparkassenstiftung conveys these core factors of success to its project partners.
Since its foundation, German Sparkassenstiftung’s staff at its headquarters in Bonn has more than doubled. In 2021, its project volume totaled some EUR 36.1 million. Meanwhile, German Sparkassenstiftung has executed far more than 200 long-term projects in some 100 countries. All these projects are financed from interest revenues on German Sparkassenstiftung’s equity capital, donations from the Sparkassen Finance Group, and from donor organizations, such as the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) and others.
German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation (DSIK) has a long project history in Indonesia.
2005 – 2010: Sparkassen Reconstruction Fund through development cooperation with Bank BPD Aceh.
June 2010 – March 2020: Promotion of a Decentralized Financial Services Offering of the Regional Development Banks (BPD)
April 2020 - March 2022: Rural Development in Indonesia through Strengthening the Rural Banking Sector (BPR)
April 2022 - March 2025: Promoting the socio-ecological transformation of the financial sector in Indonesia and the Philippines
