Divisi El-Cobra (Electrical Control Brawijaya) dibentuk sebagai jawaban mahasiswa Teknik Elektro Universitas Brawijaya dari perkembangan dunia industri yang sudah serba otomatis. Divisi Otomasi atau yang biasa dikenal dengan Divisi Otomasi dibentuk tahun 2008 sebagai tempat riset dan wadah belajar mahasiswa TEUB mengenai otomatisasi industry khususnya PLC. El-Cobra berpusat di bidang riset pemrogaman PLC dan HMI.

Tujuan dibentuknya Divisi Otomasi adalah untuk bersaing dalam lomba-lomba pemrograman PLC yang banyak diadakan di perguruan negeri seluruh Indonesia. Untuk saat ini El-Cobra masih berfocus pada pemrograman PLC yang biasa dipakai di dalam lomba, contoh merk PLC yang biasa dipakai dalam lomba yaitu : SCHNEIDER, OMRON, SIEMENS, MITSUBISHI. Selain untuk riset program beberapa merk PLC El-Cobra juga menyalurkan hasil riset tersebut kepada KBME (Keluarga Besar Mahasiswa Elektro) dalam bentuk training umum.
