Cultural Heritage Management Australia (CHMA) is a company that specialises in the assessment and management of Indigenous and historic cultural heritage. CHMA operates Australia wide, with bases in Tasmania, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory and Queensland.
Since 1993, CHMA personnel have completed over 1400 projects throughout Australia. These projects have been focused within every state and territory in the country and include the cultural heritage assessments for some of the largest infrastructure works to be constructed in Australia over the past decade.
Our projects have ranged from cultural heritage assessments for large-scale infrastructure works to multi-disciplinary projects in remote areas through to small-scale desktop studies. We have also been involved in a variety of projects in Australia’s National Parks and World Heritage Areas, including the Tasmanian Wilderness, the Willandra Lakes Region and Fraser Island World Heritage Areas.
As part of these projects, CHMA has worked closely with proponents, government agencies, community groups and Indigenous stakeholder groups to develop mutually acceptable management strategies for cultural heritage sites and values. In addition to our core personnel, CHMA also has a network of specialists whose expertise we draw on for projects as required.
CHMA is committed to ensuring that any project it undertakes is completed to the highest professional standard. All project reports produced by CHMA are guaranteed to comply with the regulations and legislative requirements governing cultural heritage management in the relevant state or territory.
CHMA is also committed to ensuring that best practices are adopted with regard to Indigenous consultation and the involvement of Indigenous groups in Aboriginal heritage projects. CHMA personnel have worked closely with representatives from Aboriginal communities across Australia, and have developed strong professional ties with these communities.
