Description

Founded in Alice Springs in 1974, Chartair is one of the biggest General Aviation companies in the country with a fleet of 40 aircraft, employing 80 full-time staff across three bases in the Northern Territory (Darwin, Alice Springs and Katherine).

Chartair is Gold BARS registered, which demonstrates our commitment to additional risk management protocols within aviation maintenance and operations. This provides us with the ability to engage with mining and resource companies who require minimum standards

Chartair is a Scheduled Transport Operator under part 135, which requires our maintenance and flight operation activities to perform at a significantly higher standard of regulatory approval than a regular charter operator.

Our in-house approved maintenance organisation (AMO) operates under CASR Part 145 conditions. The standards of training, reporting, control, supply chain management, and audit are significantly higher than a regular charter AOC organisation.

In order to operate our aircraft under CASR Part 42, and to maintain our aircraft under Part 145 requirements, we must employ key people to hold specialist roles. Whilst it is permitted, under the rules, to outsource or sub-contract certain roles (e.g. the CAM), we have dedicated full-time employees in these roles as the risks associated with “out of sight, out of mind” are simply too great for us to consider. Our key roles are all held by full-time employees located at one of our key bases:

  • Chief Pilot/Deputy Chief Pilot
  • Head of Training & Checking (we hold a Part 141 approval)
  • Continuing Airworthiness Manager (CAM) (CASR Part 42 relates to a Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation - an improved version of Maintenance Controller but for Part 42 aircraft)
  • Deputy CAM
  • Quality Manager – Required for the Part 42 and part 145
  • Safety Manager (required for our Part 145 AMO and AOC as part of our Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Head of Engineering, supported by Senior Base Engineers
