Description

Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association (CAAMA) is the oldest Indigenous media association in the country. Owned and operated by the Aboriginal people of Central Australia, the corporation was founded on the principles of the social, cultural, and economic advancement of Indigenous Australians.

CAAMA Radio has been broadcasting to audiences across Central Australia and beyond for almost 45 years. The radio service led the way in elevating the voices of Aboriginal people, especially those from remote communities, by connecting and empowering people through trusted information and celebrating languages, music, and culture of the Central Desert.

Since 1980, when CAAMA secured its first community radio license, the network has expanded to cover the largest Indigenous broadcast footprint in Australia. CAAMA manages Remote Indigenous Broadcasting Services (RIBS) in twelve communities and is further available through FM re-transmission, satellite (VAST), online streaming and third-party digital platforms.

CAAMA Music is Australia’s oldest Aboriginal record label and has nurtured some of Australia’s most prominent Aboriginal Artists. Based in Mparntwe / Alice Springs, CAAMA has been recording, supporting and promoting Indigenous Australian music for more than 40 years. The CAAMA Music Studio offers professional music recording services and is available for commercial and community hire. CAAMA Music’s aim is to champion and support First Nation’s artists, both established and emerging, and welcomes all artists to this iconic space.

The CAAMA Archive is internationally significant and of inestimable cultural value to the Aboriginal communities of Central Australia. CAAMA continues to preserve and share language and cultural content, including through continued work on digitisation of these resources.
