The Blue Hope Foundation is a Wellington, New Zealand–based charity that safeguards the mental health of New Zealand police workers and their families through system coordination and risk containment.
We are globally unique. We are the only not-for-profit organisation known to operate this model for emergency workers. We do not provide therapy, lobbying or representation. We operate when systems stop working safely or lawfully and people are put at risk.
Our role is to coordinate across clinical care, compensation, employment, privacy and family systems to restore lawful process, enforce existing rights and duties and support the recovery of decision-making capacity for mentally injured people. This includes navigation of ACC and ACC cover provided by Howden Care, the AEP provider, aligned with the Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation and Compensation framework and the Code of ACC Claimants’ Rights.
Through our flagship initiative, the Ima Project, we equip women, including mothers, sisters and widows of police workers, to recognise early warning signs of PTSD and related mental injury and activate support before harm escalates.
Our approach is grounded in disciplined risk management and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities principles of equality, non-discrimination, access to justice and effective provision of services.
Our vision is clear: zero suicides within the New Zealand Police.
