What’s “Bags Not”?
“Bags Not” is a nationwide, independent, and credible behavioural change movement dedicated to helping Kiwis change their relationships with plastics and ultimately stop the avalanche of plastic waste. The movement lives in mass media, social and as a living, breathing online portal showcasing businesses, individuals and local bodies making a difference.
How did we get started?
When advertising specialists bcg2 (Blackwood Communications Group) met sustainability champion Nick Morrison from Go Well Consulting, we became committed to doing something tangible about the problem of plastics pollution. We’ve come up with an initiative we believe every Kiwi can get behind and support: “Bags Not”.
How can we make a difference?
In New Zealand, we’re using about 1.6 billion single-use plastic bags every year. But it’s really easy to do without them. There are no petitions, no protest marches, and no donations, we’re just asking our fellow Kiwis to learn the new habit of taking a reusable bag shopping and saying “Bags Not” to single-use plastic bags at the shops. It’s a simple act, but it can make a radical difference.
Why plastic bags?
Single-use plastic bags are the ‘poster child’ for the plastics pollution crisis and the throw-away lifestyle. They’re an obvious place to start. By sharing helpful advice, demystifying their uses, and sharing inspirational stories from like-minded individuals, groups, and businesses, we’re showing everyone how easy it is to make a change for the better. And by helping Kiwis change their habits around plastic bags we hope to extend this behavioural change to all the other plastics that clog up our daily lives and our precious planet.
