Description

How can we improve liveability in your neighbourhood?

The Australian Urban Observatory is your essential digital planning tool, enabling understand and action, to build healthily liveable cities.

Built by Australia’s preeminent urban liveability research team from RMIT University, the Australian Urban Observatory brings together multiple layers of data, and leverages research, analytics and GIS technology, to allow planners and policymakers to gain deeper insights into the needs of residents.

Our research is policy-focused, investigating the connection between public health and urban planning. We support planners and policymakers across Australia, enabling evidence-based decision making and project delivery for neighbourhoods, cities and regions.

Focusing on the key factors that support liveability, the Australian Urban Observatory enables your team to plan for future infrastructure and amenities to improve walkability, social infrastructure, public open space, transport, employment, housing and access to food and alcohol.

Our extensive research into each of these elements of liveability has enabled the development of specific indicators that support health and wellbeing across Australia’s 21 largest cities.

Through the Australian Urban Observatory, these indicators can be explored at three levels of detail: Local Government Areas, Suburbs and Neighbourhoods (ABS SA1s). LGA indicators are available FREE, as are detailed indicators for our Liveability Index and Social Infrastructure Index. Beyond these, detailed liveability indicators, for suburb or neighbourhoods, are available on a paid partnership basis.

To find out more about becoming a partner, and our three tiers of partnerships, please contact us at auo@rmit.edu.au.
