The Australian Political Book of the Year Award recognises the vital part political books play in better understanding Australian politics and public policy. Well researched, balanced and compelling political books that engage Australians are vital to the strength or our democracy.
The Award longlist, shortlist, and winner will be determined by the judges as having provided the most compelling contribution to the understanding of Australian political events and debates.
How to make a submission for the 2024 Award:
Entries will be judged by the Award’s distinguished panel of judges: Emeritus Professor of Political Science at the Australian National University, John Warhurst AO, ABC 7.30 Chief Political correspondent and author, Laura Tingle, and political journalist and creator and long-time host of the ABC’s Insiders program, Barrie Cassidy.
A Longlist of ten books will be determined, followed by a Shortlist of four books, both to be announced in October. The Award Winner will be announced on 20 November 2024 at the National Press Club in Canberra.
The recipient of this year’s Award will receive prize money of $15,000 and each shortlisted author will receive $1,000.
