Description
Anak Alam Learning House is an education center located in rural Sumbawa, Indonesia. Our learning house is designed to respond to the needs of the children in our local community. Through our programs, we teach the core values of Earth Care, People Care, and Fair Shares through an ecosystem centered program.
Our ecosystem focused curriculum facilitates children in understanding the importance of the environment they are a part of from their families and communities to the planet and animals we all rely on to sustain ourselves and our livelihoods. By helping people to care about each other and the planet, we are able to affect a wide array of challenges to include mental health and emotional regulation, waste reduction, and environmental conservation while teaching the next generation to value inclusivity and appreciation for self and other.
Our education program is designed to be supplementary to traditional in-school curriculum. During our first 9 months in operation, we were able to recognize that our community is not prepared to completely revolutionize our current education system. That is why we are not trying to replace our local school, but instead our goal is to supplement it. There is no rote learning, no memorization of facts and equations imposed on the brains of our young learners.
